Irish Elders Put Instant Stop to Medical Cut

“It’s incredible what the grey power is doing in Ireland. We were on the march and it was amazing.” These are the words of Margaretta D’Arcy, elder and activist from Galway Ireland.

On October 22 the Dublin streets in front of Ireland’s Parliament were filled with 15,000 elders. With canes and wheel chairs and hand-made signs they came. They were outraged over a plan to abolish the automatic right to Medical Cards from all people over 70. About 105,000 pensioners would lose their cards.

The irate pillars of the community booed the minister of State off the altar in a church were thousands gathered.  On the street they refused to listen to the minister of health until she was in tears.

Two days later the Parliament backed down on the plan. No one will lose their Medical Cards.
